Art

The notion of art is something everyone talks about when it comes to drawing. However many people have no idea what art really is about. The definition of art can be found in any dictionary and the shortest definition is "Works produced by such skill and imagination". Now remember these two words. It is the true definition of art, but only to those who are categorized and portrayed in the "general" scene. Art is not limited to your pencil and erasers, since there are other disciplines that requires the same materials (skill and imagination) such as singing, dancing, combat and also cooking. All the things I mentioned above are things that define what art is to the general population in its most simple words and examples. Art is not defined by its representations but by its concepts and ideas. Everyone has their own concept and that will define them as artists. How? because art requires techniques and creativity, therefore art should be expressed as something as flexible as the mind of a human being; that is not limited by any source. People who have no artistic expressions and ideas of their own art are less likely to become successful. And those who do not know what I am talking about should really go read a book instead.

Drawings (excluding paintings)

I know that drawing is basically the use of pencil and eraser in order to shape our ideas, imagination and techniques into reality. However many people do not understand what the essence of drawing really is about. Some people have been transformed by the idea of mainstream cultures; a society that emphasizes fast-paced work that look good. I understand why they like rushing things up, however I believe drawings should not be rushed especially when your career depends on it. If you cannot afford things in life by taking time in drawing, then you should maybe find another job. This is all my personal opinion, just by looking at the history of drawing; drawing is dying as a form of art. The reason why drawing ever existed was because cavemen loved to express their curiosity, whereas in middle-ages artists took months to draw something while being able to live comfortably. Nowadays the only form of art in drawing that I see is being a cartoonist or a "mangaka" in Japan. These people have wonderfully fulfilled what Art really is about; which are defined differently in each of their comic books. Drawing is dying because how they have been taught, the school that they are attending and how strict the process to teach new students really is. People are taught to do technical stuffs because art is about skill and how well they will be able to apply them in their own work. However, students do not have any creativity or real originality. Why? drawing is a form of both technique AND creativity. If those two conditions are not met, you are not expressing art, you are just tooling around with your pencil and erasers on a sheet of paper. That is not art. The reason why students do not have the other half (original works) is because they are trained and taught. Imagination do not comes from teachings and lectures, you are the one who is responsible for your own creativity. Nobody will be able to teach you imagination or how you can make unique work. You must be trained by YOURSELF, practice and effort will compensate you, but only at an early stage of life. There is a fact that is half true: if you start drawing at an early age, you will develop imagination. Starting early will not make you a star; you will not develop both technique and imagination. There is a age for practice and there is a age for learning.

Another issue is how portrait and realistic drawings really became a problem. Teachers will teach you the techniques, all they will teach you are the real things. Nonetheless, realistic drawings are just the basic and technique practice for artist to improve themselves. I personally do not consider portrait or any realistic drawings part of what I like about art (just let me finish), the reason why I find realistic drawing a joke is basically a copy of the exact physical thing onto your paper. The funny part is not how it will look like, but how you approached it. Many people will think that skill in realistic drawing is by how well it look, however what they should focus is the technical approach they used in order to achieve that goal. People do not understand that argument, but I do not blame them because they do not even know their own definition of art. In a polite way, portrait is just another way to show off your basic skills to the general population of your entourage. It is not art, it is just a drawing lesson for improvement by doing a perfect replicate of something that exist physically, nothing imagined or unique.

Criticizing

Well hello there! Welcome to the most welcoming section. The critics are what really bothers me. Because I know I am a harsh critic, I know how to do it well and clear. The real intention for criticizing someone is basically to help them improve and give advice on their work for future references. The only issue is the relation between a non-artistic critic and an artist. If you do not know what your talking about, you do no criticize please. Critics are common, but not commonly used properly. Even between artists, criticizing each others' work is becoming a joke in the work place, as you might ask why artists do no criticize each other? Respect. It is all about respecting each others' work while understand the pros and cons of each work. On the other hand, a non-artist (maybe you) that has lack of experience in this discipline starts to criticize or humiliating the artist's approach in expressing his/her ideas, then I believe that person should be ashamed of. It is the most ridiculous way to basically say "I have no idea what I am talking about". A better example would be: "A peasant walks by a Samurai and tells him that the way he hold his sword is wrong, while his sword is unsheathed". I pretty summed up what I meant by "proper" critics.

J'ai toujours dessiné seul et j'utilise rarement des références comme par exemple à partir des photos d'un vue de paysage ou bien un autre bidule du même genre. Je suis très stricte à ce point, je n'aime pas copier les mêmes dessins, techniques ou encore le même structure d'une autre artiste. Et c'est peut-être pour cela que je refuse de faire des portraits ou bien des dessins réalistes. Pour moi, un portrait est soit parfait ou soit elle est ratée; c'est plutôt un grand pari entre l'artiste et son talent. C'est-à-dire soit tu échoues, sois tu viens de réalisé votre meilleur dessin.

Mes inspirations viennent des histoires que j'ai lu ou entendu et je ne fait que les reproduire. Ce n'est pas du copiage, puisque c'est moi qui est en train de créer ce qui me semble vrai, et réel à mes propres dispositions et surtout à mon style. Et en parlant de style, je n'ai pas découvert mon style. Tout le monde a eu le moment d'essayer les différentes techniques qui ont existé depuis des décennies, transmis de génération en génération. Moi j'ai commencé à découvrir sans l'aide d'aucun "Maître", mais J’ai quand même eu beaucoup de références après avoir connaitre mes propres limites et ma capacité d'apprendre seul. Ce n'est pas très chouette d'apprendre seul, mais de temps en temps je fais beaucoup de réflexions  comme du genre: "devrais-je essayer ceci" ou bien "ah je comprends comment il a dessiné celle-là". Cette sorte de pensé ne convient pas a n'importe qui. Beaucoup de gens ne comprennent pas certaines artistes dans le sens où leur technique, vision et intention leur sont inconnu ou même incompréhensible.

Qui suis-je

Je m'appelle Hao Feng, je suis un étudiant à l'école secondaire Saint-Luc. 

La création de ce site est pour but de vous expliquer mes démarches artistiques, pour un projet scolaire.

Bon, pour être honnête, je ne sais pas où commencer. Parlons de mon point de vue sur l'art!

Pour moi, l'art n'est pas compliqué, c'est un phénomène qui peut être représenté de façon minuscule, mais qui a une grande et immense influence sur son entourage.

J'aime tout ce qui est artistique. Mais ce que j'aime le plus, c'est les Bande Dessinée. Pourquoi? Parce que pour moi, c'est la forme parfaite qu'une image peut avoir. Mais attention! Pas n'importe laquelle BD, mais des Mangas. Ce sont vraiment des Mangas qui ont de beaux dessins et en même temps des histoires de génies.

J'ai fait aussi un montage de tous les livres mangas que j'ai aimé, dans la section Photos et Images.

J'ai commencé a dessiner lorsque j'avais regardé mon premier BD: « The Amazing Spider-Man. »

Je dois avouer que c'est vraiment mon héro préféré des « Comic Books ».

Mes premiers dessins sont, évidemment, Spider-Man. Mais hors commun des autres personnes; je n'ai jamais calqué, rien. J'analyse, je comprend et j'exécute. C'étais ÇA mon point fort. Je suis bon en dessin car je comprends très vite comment les autres pensent en dessinant, comment ils exécutent leurs mouvements de crayons et etc...

Facilement, j'ai commencé à m'adapter. Alors je pouvais faire ce que je voulais avec "spider-man", j'ai decidé de faire plein de mouvements; sur les toiles, en train de prendre des poses, etc...

Par la suite, je me suis intéressé au Dragon Ball, le premier manga que j'ai lu.

C’était "intense" comme bande dessinée... Tout comme spider-man, j'ai fait les mêmes choses, sauf que là, je devais apprendre les effets spéciaux, comment faire une visage, des cheveux, l'anatomie du corps et aussi comment créer un environnement de Style Dragon Ball.

Après quelque années, j'étais alors complètement absorbé des dessins au Grands Yeux(manga pour des enfants surtout), un de mes techniques "amateur-esque" étaient:

-Créer les yeux en premier

-faire le nez, la bouche

-Et faire le contour du visage

C’était drôle, parce que les visages étaient tous de dimension RONDE, avec bien sûr des superbes grosses yeux...

J'ai fini par changer mon habitude de dessiner comme un enfant lorsque j'avais commencé à lire des mangas plus destinée aux jeunes adultes (la violence, le "gore" et un peu de nudité) lorsque j'avais 14.

Les mangas étaient alors devenus plus sérieux en matière du déroulement de l'histoire, et surtout des contenus artistiques. C'est-à-dire plus de détails, mais vraiment beaucoup plus.

Je cherchais un moyen de faire un beau bonhomme qui a une tête bien ovale avec un corps normal. Je voulais lire des livres sur le Net, mais je n’aimais pas leurs "démarches" artistiques. Alors j'ai commencé a inventer mes propres façons de dessiner, mais plus facile a exécuter.

C'est aussi à cette âge que je commençais a m'inspirer des autres artistes (trop nombreux) de manga. C'est alors là ou je commençais qu'à faire juste des dessins de personnages. Tous mes personnages étaient uniques et différents des autres. Plus que j'ai lu de mangas, plus j'avais d'innombrable idées en tête.

Je pourrais parler de cela encore plus, mais je ne veux pas aller trop loin.

Déjà que c'est long de même...

En bref, je créer mes dessins à partir de mon expérience, même très courte(environs 6 ans) et surtout, à partir de mon imagination très développé.

  P.S: J'ai commencé a dessiner depuis 2009 activement, appart ca je dessinais lorsque j'avais 12-13 ans. Ce que vous voyez c'est l'évolution de mon art a travers le temps.
